Jurat/Acknowledgements
Jurat/Acknowledgements
*An oath or affirmation is required to receive notarial acts.
General
The function of a jurat is to have an affiant swear (oath) or affirm the veracity of an affidavit's contents. A notary acknowledgment is a declaration that the signer of a document is the person they claim to be, comprehends the document's contents, and signs willingly. An oath is a solemn promise made to a deity, whereas an affirmation is a pledge of one's personal honor. Both are legally binding commitments to speak the truth, making the oath-taker or affirmant liable to perjury penalties. Notarized oaths and affirmations are serious declarations with legal implications, executed before a Notary. *SIGNER(S) MUST BE PRESENT: state issued driver's license or ID, government -issued photo ID (e.g., U.S. Passport, Military ID, etc...) (if applicable identification for required Witness(es)
